What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
• Lead and manage a team of communications professionals in the handling of high profile, sensitive, contentious issues and projects subject to public, partner and/or stakeholder interest and attention.
• Provide strategic issues management, crisis communications and media relations advice to ministry colleagues, other ministries, Minister's Office, Cabinet Office, and Premier's Office in support to ministry programs.
• Manage and monitor media relations and develop media relations strategies to support overall communications plans for ministry initiatives, including proactive media outreach.
• Plan, lead and coordinate the development of communication policies and processes related to correspondence services, standards and improvements.

Qualifications

How do I qualify?

Leadership and Project Management Experience

• You can lead staff and project teams, in order to meet strategic business plans.
• You can collaborate and lead an innovative team, in an on-demand environment.
• You know Human Resources theories and principles to develop organizational capacity which includes succession planning, talent management, organization and job design and labour relations management.
• You know financial and administrative procedures to manage fiscal and material resources, including budgets, facilities, assets, and contracted service providers.
• You know project management principles and methodologies to oversee and guide the overall delivery of mandates and strategies.
• You can provide advice and guidance on project planning and management, and to ensure that objectives, quality and time-line targets are met.

Communications Experience

• You have knowledge of strategic communications planning, media relations and issues management methods, techniques and principles.
• You can lead communications and issues management, provide strategic advice on communication issues and the implementation of new/revised communications and technologies.
• You have successfully implemented quality control methods, processes and standards to ensure accountability for all information and products from the Director's office.
• You can prepare and present written and verbal responses to a wide range of audiences.

Issues Management and Strategic Thinking

• You can analyze public and media opinions and perceptions for the development of issues management, media strategies and recommend effective responses.
• You can lead a team in the development and management of proactive and reactive issues, media relations and correspondence strategies, as well as stakeholder and partner reactions in often unpredictable situations.
• As a member of the branch management team, you are a supportive, strategic and innovative leader.
• You can use political acuity and think strategically to provide advice and recommendations to ministry senior management and the Deputy Minister's, Minister's and Cabinet Offices on strategies and approaches.

Salary Range: $90,348 - $127,343 per year
