The Air Canada Pilots Association (ACPA) represents the largest group of professional airline pilots in Canada. With some 3,700 members who fly passengers and cargo around the world on Air Canada and Air Canada rouge, ACPA serves a diverse and engaged membership via its headquarters near Toronto’s Pearson Airport, and through regional representatives across pilot bases in Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver.

As part of the Communications and Government Affairs team, the Communications Manager is a 12-month contract position. The successful candidate will join an organization raising its profile with members and other stakeholders and will develop and deliver on the Association’s communications and government affairs initiatives.

It is ideal for an individual who possesses solid internal and external communications skills in the areas of media relations, government affairs, issues management, advocacy and member engagement, and is seeking to further develop their potential. The successful candidate will be an exceptional writer who has:

  • a track record in aligning organization and communications objectives;
  • experience working with internal audiences, media, government officials and/or other external stakeholders;
  • skills in the use of online and social media platforms;
  • an ability to collaborate with Association stakeholders, technical experts and elected officials in distilling complex information into effective internal and external messages.

The successful candidate will have 5-7 years of experience in a similar role and a degree in Journalism, Political Science, Communications, Public Relations or similar program. The successful candidate must be eligible to engage in lobbying-related activities. Other skills required include: MS Office; web-based research tools and programs; content management systems; established and emerging social media, including dashboards and monitoring tools.

In addition to strong teamwork, collaboration and problem-solving skills, the successful candidate will demonstrate superior research, writing and editing skills; understanding and application of strategic communications and issues management principles; and excellent organization, project management, time management and multi-tasking skills.
