THE OPPORTUNITY

 

Joining an outstanding team dedicated to excellence in communications and quality health care in Ontario, the Senior Communications Advisor is responsible for providing expert communications counsel and services to support the delivery of Health Quality Ontario’s communications strategies. The role reports to the Director, Communications and leads strategic work, needs assessment and product development for Health Quality Ontario programs. The individual will come with experience delivering high quality, multi-faceted communications programs from concept through to execution, aligned with best practices.

 

WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO?

Communications Development & Delivery:

·        Collaborates with internal stakeholders to identify and understand communications needs and program-specific content, and recommends strategies, messaging and tactics as well as measures of success on communications approaches.

·        Throughout all projects, builds a compelling narrative to articulate the work of Health Quality Ontario, ensuring language is on-brand, clear and concise.

·        Develops and implements multi-faceted communications materials (e.g. web posts, marketing materials such as e-newsletters, social media assets, news releases, stakeholder communications, etc.) to engage identified audiences.

·        Manages proactive and reactive media relations, developing relationships with key journalists, managing media requests and coordinating interviews.

·        Works closely with colleague designers and the Digital Team to ensure content is visually inspired and facilitates the user journey and experience on the Health Quality Ontario website.

·        Identifies stakeholder partners and methods of engagement to share information about Health Quality Ontario programs. 

Qualifications

Quality Improvement:

·        Develops an understanding of Health Quality Ontario’s audiences and their interactions with the organization, identifying opportunities for improving communication vehicles and delivery mechanisms.

 

      Relationship Management:

·        Develops relationships with peers and associates across Health Quality Ontario to understand business/operations activities, identify communications requirements, share information and resolve issues.

·        Manages relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure project/communications deliverables and expectations are effectively managed and any issues are resolved.

·        Builds relationships with relevant external stakeholders, government representatives, and communications representatives.

·        Stays current and proactively brings forward industry best practices and emerging products and trends in the field of communications.

 

HOW DO I QUALIFY?

To be considered for this opportunity, you will have:

 

Education:

·        Undergraduate degree in Communications, Journalism or in a related discipline.

 

Experience:

 

·        A minimum of 5 years’ experience in strategic communications planning and execution.

 

Preferred Experience:

·        10 years’ direct communications combined experience working in a Public Relations agency setting (with in-depth experience in health), or in government, provider, or a provider association health care setting.

·        Experience in project management.

·        Experience in event planning.

·        Experience in video development.

·        Understanding of written French language preferred.

 

Key Competencies:

·        Solid understanding of the health care sector – in particular, an understanding of health care professionals and partners that would relate to Health Quality Ontario’s full mandate in quality improvement, evidence development and public reporting.

·        Superior writing and editing skills are essential to accurately communicate about Health Quality Ontario’s various initiatives in a way that resonates with a wide range of stakeholders.

·        Strong media relations skills, including relationship-building, pitching and managing requests.

·        Strategic digital communications and social media understanding and skills (e.g., content and asset development, engagement, etc.).

·        Strong interpersonal and analytical skills so the Advisor can build relationships with Health Quality Ontario team members and proactively respond to and understand their communications needs.

·        Strong project management skills in order to meet multiple deadlines for multiple internal audiences.
