Job Description

The Schulich School of Law is Canada’s most national law school, with students coming from and returning to every province and territory of Canada. Reporting to the Dean, Schulich School of Law, the Manager of Communications stewards and enhances the reputation and profile of the law school in alignment with the strategic priorities of the law school and the university through brand management, media and public relations, external and internal communications, marketing, and creative services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the law school faculty and senior administrators, communication colleagues both internal and external, various university departments, media, and the legal community to build strong collegial relationships.
  • Develop and execute integrated marketing and communication plans; ensure strategic initiatives align with the strategic vision of the Faculty and University.
  • Act as first point of contact for faculty interactions with the media; manage the law school’s online presence, profile, and public image.
  • Analyze the competitive environment and trends in legal education; apply forward-thinking strategies and tactics to communication plans, marketing materials, publications, fund development projects, and other deliverables.
  • Develop and oversee budgets to support communication and marketing plans and projects; manage resources related to production of communication materials.
  • Manage student, unionized, and contract employees working on communication projects for the Faculty.

Undergraduate degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or other related field with minimum five years’ related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. Demonstrated organizational, managerial, and administrative skills with the ability to prioritize activities and meet expectations according to larger strategic goals is essential. Exceptionally strong communication skills, including oral communications, writing, and editing is required. Demonstrated interpersonal and diplomatic skills to form positive working relationships to support communication across broad constituencies. Must be self-motivated with the ability to work with little direction, independently, as well as collaboratively.
