What it’s like working at CBC/Radio-Canada

At CBC/Radio-Canada, we create content that informs, entertains and connects Canadians on multiple platforms. Our successes and accomplishments are driven by embodying and upholding values, which include creativity, integrity, inclusiveness and relevance.

Do you think you have the ability and drive to keep up with this exciting, ever-changing industry? Whether it be in front of the camera, on air, online or behind the scenes, you would be joining a team that thrives on making connections and telling stories that are important to Canadians.

Your role

As part of the Public Affairs team for CBC English Services, you collaborate and strategize with the Head of Public Affairs on issues management for the senior management team. You act as media spokesperson, as needed, addressing critical issues.

You are responsible for monitoring the internal and external environment to identify emerging, current and potential issues, which need to be managed to protect and enhance the reputation of all CBC’s brands, platforms and programs across the country. You provide in-depth analyses and prepare specific strategic issues management plans, recommending specific interventions, actions and prepare all associated materials (background notes, statements, key messages, etc.). You participate in full debriefings for reputational crises and formulate recommendations to manage them effectively. You utilize issue and media-tracking techniques. You oversee our Audience Services team to ensure all information for our respective audiences is consistent with what we are saying to media and our employees. You also oversee CBC English Services’ Employee Communications team, responsible for crafting and distributing a wide array of internal communications products, including those of the Executive Vice President and senior management team.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • University degree in Communication, Business or related discipline.
  • Minimum seven years related experience in media relations in an issues/crisis management role within a large complex organization.
  • In-depth knowledge of communications planning and issues management techniques and practices.
  • Experience developing a wide array of communications products for both internal and external audiences.
  • Familiarity with issue and media-tracking tools and techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) in a team-oriented environment.
  • Comfortable delivering key messages and talking to the media as per strategy.
  • Able to prioritize and work well under the pressure of deadlines in a constantly changing, high profile environment.
  • Knowledge of the broadcast industry and related environments is an asset.
  • Ability to work varied hours, potentially long days and/or weekends as required.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
