Communications Assistant

Our mission is to be the voice of Ontario’s forests by supporting forest restoration, stewardship, education and awareness. Forests Ontario's communications team raises awareness about its programs, events and initiatives. To support this need, Forests Ontario is seeking a communications/marketing professional with one to three years experience. Reporting to the Communications Manager, this position's responsibilities include:

·         Write and edit a variety of print and electronic marketing and communications materials, including presentations, news releases, media advisories, blogs, brochures, reports, social media postings and matte stories.

·         Work with the team to implement, execute and analyze the success of outreach campaigns and initiatives.

·         Monitor corporate communications for uniformity in message including templates, use of logo, etc.

·         Assist in advertising creation, approvals and placement.

·         Update the Forests Ontario website and social media vehicles' content and postings.

·         Assist in the creation and distribution of the quarterly e-newsletter and e-blasts.

·         Work with partner organizations, including the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, on the development and approval of marketing and communications materials.

·         Coordinate projects with external vendors, designers and print suppliers.

·         Attend and represent the organization at trade shows, conferences, industry events, including travel within Ontario, as needed.

·         Provide communications/marketing support to the Program Coordinator during the development of workshops and other events.

·         Support other communications and fundraising work, as required.



Candidate should possess:

·         Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

·         A degree or diploma from an accredited communications/public relations program at the university or community college level and/or related work experience.

·         Experience with content management systems and social media vehicles (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube).

·         Event coordination and execution experience.

·         Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work independently to deadline.

·         Photography and/or design skills are considered an asset.

·         Experience using Adobe Creative Suite considered an asset.

·         Working knowledge of SalesForce considered an asset.

·         Demonstrated interest in and a commitment to a healthy environment.

·         Valid driver’s license


This is a full-time position. Salary will be negotiated based on candidate's experience and education.
