Advisor, Communications

Job Description

The Communications & Corporate Affairs Division at the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) requires an individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to provide communications and public relations advice, product development and support to the AGCO.

Under the supervision of the Director, Communications, the successful candidate:

·         Provides communications advice and support to the organization's strategic and operational services

·         Develops, with senior management and client groups, communication objectives, strategies, products and messages

·         Monitors media coverage on matters relevant to the AGCO

·         Conducts research to assess the stakeholder environment

·         Writes and produces a range of electronic and print communications and promotional materials

·         Coordinates the design, development and production of communication products

·         Conducts/participates in projects for the planning, design and implementation of special events/conferences/meetings, etc. in support of the organization, coordinates the execution of logistical and communications requirements appropriate to the event, including, e.g., invitations, promotions, media advisories, etc.

·         Participates in the review and development of policies, procedures, processes and standards for electronic and print communication systems to ensure consistency internally and with government guidelines and standards

·         Ensures products meet French-language and accessibility requirements


The ideal candidate will possess the following:

·         College diploma in corporate communications or public relations or a university degree in communications, media or journalism

·         Superior writing, organizational/analytical/research skills

·         Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of the organization

·         Sound judgement and sensitivity to issues and ability to work with a diverse client group

·         Ability to work within tight deadlines, both independently and as part of a team

·         Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, change-oriented environment

·         Strong knowledge of how regulatory bodies function and familiarity with the strategic issues facing AGCO’s regulated industries

·         Excellent computer skills and working knowledge of various software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required

·         The successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada and will be subject to a criminal background check
