Job Description

Havergal College is a pre-eminent Canadian independent school for girls from JK to 12. We are seeking an innovative, enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our staff as the Campaign Writer. This is a full time, 2-year contract.

Position Summary

The Campaign Writer will collaborate with members of the Communications & Marketing and the Advancement & Community Relations teams to write compelling communications to support the capital campaign’s $21 million goal with a view of increasing the organization’s profile, celebrating and attracting supporters and ensuring a broad understanding of the school’s funding opportunities and milestones. 

The Campaign Writer will serve as an editorial lead and writer for a wide variety of print and electronic projects with an eye to market opportunities for support, while maintaining the school’s brand standards. Projects include, but are not limited to, campaign-related promotional materials, microsite content, impact reports, donor profiles, video scripts, invitation copy and key messaging for annual appeal letters.

The candidate must have extensive knowledge of the charitable marketplace as well as demonstrated success creating communications that engage the philanthropic community and motivate staff.

Responsibilities:

The Campaign Writer is responsible for spearheading the communications to support the capital campaign and overseeing the necessary internal approvals. The following are the key responsibilities for the position:

  • Develop and implement external and internal communications to:
  • Develop and manage communications collateral materials for the school (e.g., proposals, impact reports, brochures, social media messages, videos, newsletters, correspondence and relevant speeches etc.), ensuring all documents and information reinforces the brand and compels donors to participate in the capital priorities.
  • Set-up and maintain various systems to monitor and track fundraising communications.
  • Assist in preparing presentations for internal and external meetings when capital campaign messaging is required.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of progressive communications experience, ideally in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Excellent communications skills both verbal and written with the ability to draft, edit and proofread documents. Knowledge of CP Style, specifically grammar, punctuation and syntax. Talent for adjusting voice and writing styles to fit various audiences and purposes.
  • Experience creating and executing engaging campaign copy, using multi-channel marketing strategies, leveraging community building and engagement through a variety of communications tactics.
  • Experience developing, implementing and evaluating donor communication plans and materials, working to a budget.
  • Customer-focused with a commitment to working cooperatively in a team environment with senior leaders, faculty and staff, Board of Governors, volunteers, alumnae, donors and the public.
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google’s G Suite and other computer applications.
