External Communications Supervisor

Position title: External Communication Supervisor Department: Corporate Communications Position band: Supervisory/consultant Reports to: Regional Communications Manager Type of position: Full-time, permanent In this new role on the McDonald's Canada Corporate Relations team, you'll help the business strengthen and protect reputation to support growth by bringing a local focus and championing regional needs across all our external communication efforts. Reporting into the Regional Communications Manager and working with regional teams, national leads and franchisees from coast to coast, you'll help share our authentic brand stories with media, influencers and other key stakeholders. We look forward to seeing your application!" - Miranda Steele, Director of Corporate Communications Job Description: Guest Obsessed •Drive understanding, focus and awareness of Regional needs across all external Corporate Relations efforts •Support the creation, planning and execution of the external communication strategies with a focus on the East and West regions •Proactively engage with local franchisees to support their storytelling efforts •Develop, deploy and act as key liaison for the newly revised ‘Brand Builder’ program, which supports Franchisees in their local storytelling and brand building efforts •Protect brand risk and reputation by supporting the team to manage and mitigate issues from coast to coast Better Together •Partner with East & West teams to ensure Corporate Relations’ focus best serves the unique needs of each region •Work collaboratively with the broader Corporate Relations team and external agency partners •Maintains a ‘pulse check’ with franchisees from coast to coast, making recommendations and putting into action the support they require to act as Brand Builders in their local markets •Provide guidance to external communication agency as it relates to West and East external communication plan •Actively engage and participate with team members and key stakeholders both live, and remotely Committee to Lead •Protects the brand by supporting issues management and restaurant incidents as required •Mines industry and competitive best practices in Corporate Relations, bringing new ideas to the team and seeking ways to innovate on recurring programs and processes • Uses data, analytics and strong problem-solving skills to make the most of opportunities as they arise •Strengthen and protect the McDonald’s brand by supporting the cross-functional internal crisis team as issues arise •Provide proactive strategic counsel to company leadership and key stakeholders Leadership Expectations: The successful candidate must display, to some degree, the following behaviours which are at the core of McDonald’s culture: •Stand with the Guest •Inspire Others to Shine •Collaborate Across Boundaries •Focus on Shared Purpose •Seek New Ways
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications: •Bachelor’s degree in communication or related field •5-7 years of experience in an external communication position •Exceptional written and verbal communication skills (English); French is considered a strong asset •Experience in developing external communications plans, bringing new, creative ideas to life •Issues management experience •Ability to work in and adapt to a fast-paced environment with quickly changing priorities and tight deadlines. •Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and keep key stakeholders informed. •Experience and comfort working with and providing proactive strategic counsel •Team player with proven ability to build relationships and foster collaboration across functional areas •Strong organizational, time management and project management skills. •Ability to exercise discretion, good judgment and diplomacy. •Able to take initiative and work with various stakeholders to ensure ongoing progress and timeliness of deliverables •Demonstrated passion to stay up to speed on news\food trends\social media and influencers trends •Experience in building proactive campaigns and activations that leverage a variety of mediums, including social media channels •Previous work experience in or with an agency is an asset •Must be flexible to support regional time differences and the demands of the 24 hour news cycle as needed; Some travel within Canada will be required
