The Alberta Energy Regulator’s (AER’s) Public Affairs Branch develops both internal and external products and campaigns including web, document, editing, graphic design, and writing services to help the AER tell its story to Albertans, indigenous communities, AER staff, industry, stakeholders, and the Government of Alberta.

The successful candidate will write stories for the AER’s news site, Resource, and provide communications support and assistance to the AER Public Affairs Branch as it carries out a range activities and services.

This is a student/recent graduate position that is expected to last approximately four months.



  • Research and write content for the AER’s Resource news site and other Public Affairs products
  • Conduct media monitoring, analysis and reporting
  • Support AER staff by creating and reviewing PowerPoint presentations
  • Support Public Affairs in the delivery of communications services to clients
  • Assist in planning and organizing special events
  • Assist with the development of innovative communications products and strategies

  • Communications, public relations, or journalism student or recent graduate
  • A strong writer, able to write stories in a journalistic style
  • Adept at working in PowerPoint
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of communications techniques and practices
  • Knowledge of photography and videography
  • Ability to work independently while supporting team efforts and timelines
